Standard Tipping Guidelines
Here are common tipping percentages for different service levels:
- 10%: Below average service
- 15%: Standard/acceptable service
- 18%: Good service (common in many areas)
- 20%: Excellent service
- 25%+: Exceptional service or special occasions
Tipping Etiquette by Country
United States
15-20% is standard for restaurants. Tipping is expected and often makes up a significant portion of server income.
Canada
15-20% is typical, similar to the United States.
Europe
5-10% or rounding up is common. Service charge is often included in the bill.
Australia
Tipping is not mandatory but 10% for exceptional service is appreciated.

Splitting the Bill
When dining with friends, use the "Number of People" field to calculate how much each person should contribute. The calculator will show both the total per person (including their share of the bill and tip) and the tip amount per person.
Tip Calculation Formula
Tip Amount = Bill Amount × (Tip Percentage / 100)
Total Amount = Bill Amount + Tip Amount
Per Person = Total Amount / Number of People
